Karin Slaughter has written another winner!!! This book, another in the Heartsdale stories like her earlier "Blindsighted", "Kisscut, etc., is wonderful.
In this book, two gunmen come into the Heartsdale Police Department, and open fire. Jeffrey Tolliver is critically wounded and his ex-wife, Sara Linton, is taken hostage along with several others. Sara soon learns that the gunmen are not unknown to either her or Jeffrey, but rather they are part of their past.
Karin Slaughter does a great job using "flasback" type scenes to give us insight into Sara and Jeffrey's past when they had first begun dating almost fifteen years earlier. They visit Jeffrey's hometown and stumble into a murder as well as some of Jeffrey's old secrets. The scenes from the past are woven effortlessly into the novel and really give us a glimpse of what Sara and Jeffrey are like based on their pasts.
"Indelible" barely touches on some of the other Heartsdale characters that we have come to enjoy in her previous books. Characters like Tessa (Sara's siste) are barely mentioned and Lena Adams, while still a major player in this book, is not delved into as much as in previous novels. This book focuses mainly on Sara and Jeffrey, and is all the more intense for it.

Karin Slaughter is an author that I was introduced to through PaperBackSwap members. I ordered these books only because of reading information about them here. I am so grateful!! I have read so many of this genre that I'm a tough audience to impress; she more than makes the cut. She is, to me, one of the best writers in this genre: right up there with Jeffery Deaver, T. Jefferson Parker, John Sandford, Carol O'Connell etc.
As someone else commented, this book is, for her, somewhat slower moving at times than her usual hold-your-breath pace. However, it is still very intense and definitely enhances the development and your understanding of the two main characters.
I have the next title in the series on my shelf, but I restrained myself from gobbling it up. I still hear it calling to me; I won't be able to resist very long...probably won't even try.

Another exciting story about police chief Tolliver and his ex-wife Sara, the county medical examiner. I really enjoyed this book and it has a few surprising twists.

This book is the fourth of the Grant County series, and I really feel they should be read in order. This one is different from the others, however, in that the story is split between a time early in Sara and Jeffrey's relationship and the present. A pair of young armed gunmen take over the police station, killing or injuring most of the officers. Were they looking for Jeffrey, and if so why? The characterizations remain true and the story riveting. I've enjoyed all four Grant County stories by Slaughter.

I just love this series. I am so glad that she went into more depth about Jeffery and Sara and the beginning of it all. It definately sheds some light on the other books. I would recommend this book to anyone, but I think you need to read it in order

If you are a ready of Slaughter's, this book gives you a look at the Sara and Jeffrey's past. Explains why Jeffrey is the way he is. A great read, kept me reading.

The Grant County series is excellent. I recommend it to anyone.

This fourth book in the Sara Linton series is a very important one. It is two stories in one. The police station is invaded. Some people are killed and others, including children who were taking a tour of the station, and others are taken hostage. There is a back story telling about a visit to Jeffrey Tolliver's home town when he and Sara first started dating.
Karin Slaughter is fast becoming one of my favorite crime story writers. Four stars.

A complicated structure that flashes forward and backward in time keeps this hostage-situation thriller from resolving too quickly.
FANTASTIC AS ALWAYS
Really good story - it has a "flashback" plot and a "realtime" plot which ties some of the past together nicely.
It has long since been astablished that Jeffrey and Sara's relationship is haunted by ghosts from the past. Before, it was Sara's past that was causing a variety of troubles, but in the fourth Grant County instalment, we see that Jeffrey has his fair share as well.
The book begins with a hostage situation at Jeffrey's office. Some gunmen have come in and have left many dead, with Sara terrified and Jeffrey badly wounded. Lena is on the team, but she is hiding her own secrets. Having just returned to the police force, she fears she is pregnant by her abusive boyfriend. This takes a backseat as the story unfolds to that of Jeffrey and Sara's past.
When they are first dating, Jeffrey takes Sara to his hometown to meet his friends and family. Sara sees his family for the first time, realizing that Jeffrey came from a family and friend circle of bitter, angry people. Soon an accidental murder occurs, and Jeffrey seems to have altered some things at the scene to clear his childhood friend of suspision. Why? Why would Jeffrey, himself a policeman, do something so terrible as to obstruct justice? And the twists and turns are very surprising if not tragic. Fueling the horrible tragedy that their future marriage would bring about (partly because Sara could not have children because of her brutal rape years ago), it is discovered that Jeffrey had fathered a child with a woman from his high school years and was never told. We all have such dirty little secrets, things hidden away. But, no matter how much families and friends try to hide their mistakes, short comings, and trying to make everything look "right and respectable" despite their shame, the truth somehow comes out. It always does. Even the most adept liars can't go on forever living their lies. And lies, as we all know, aren't worth anything.

one of the first of her books to read and will read more from her.
Two armed men enter the policy station in tiny Heartsdale, Georgia and open fire. When the shooting stops, an officer is dead and Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver is seriously wounded. Sara Linton, along with a group of schoolchildren, is held hostage. The sins of the past have caught up with Sara and Jeffrey. This is another good book in the Jeffrey/Sara series by Karin Slaughter. If you've enjoyed the others, you'll like this one.
Fantastic Read
Synopsis
Past and present collide violently in the fourth thriller to feature Grant County, Georgia, medical examiner Sarah Linton and her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Linton. Two young men enter the police station, kill a deputy, wound Jeffrey, and hold the station house hostage, including several visiting schoolchildren. It's up to the police outside the station to defuse the deadly situation, the motive for which is rooted in a crime that Jeffrey hushed up 12 years ago.

I just finished this book and it is another great Sara Linton novel. Its not so much mystery and murder, but it is definetly a thriller and its great how it delves into the lives and relationshup of Sara and Jeffery.
A very good read! Want to read more by Karin Slaughter
You get a lot of bangs for your buck in this new thriller.
Outstanding!!! I loved this book. I have read others by her, this one tops the list!
I love author! She gets better with every book.

Great Book. I love it. I've read others in this series and they're all great.
Very good, I really like all the books in this series.
Sometimes a past comes back to kill.....Another good read by Karin Slaughter.
Good book - anyone who likes murder mysteries will like this one.
This is in a series of books. Once I read the first one I read the next one and the next one. They are very interesting, fast paced and the characters are realistic. The main characters are a doctor/coroner and chief of police. The supporting characters are their families, friends and coworkers. I highly recommend these books to anyone who has yet to read any of Ms. Slaughters work.
Great read about murder and life with an unusual ending.
4th book in this series. Excellent. Lots of twists and turns. Will keep you guessing. Was very surprised how it ended..
Sara Linton, medical examiner is held hostage after two armed men storm into a police station and open fire.

This was a very good and face paced read. I really enjoyed this storyline. I definatley recommend reading this entire series in order. This is the 4th book.
keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first page!
Great series.Holds your attention. Not for the faint of heart
This is the best book in the Grand County series so far. There is a hostage situation in the present, and flashbacks to Sara and Jeffrey's relationship in the past. It kind of feels like an episode of LOST! Good suspense throughout the book. I highly recommend this book but you should read the series in order.
The latest from Slaughter, and it is better than the rest!
I like all of Karin Slaughter's books, but this one is my new favorite! If you like murder mysteries that don't end like you think they will, then this is the book for you!
I think this may be my favorite of the series so far. I enjoyed getting to know about Jeffrey's past. It was fun to learn about the beginning of Sara & Jeffrey's relationship. This book wasn't as graphic as the earlier ones, but I don't mind gory details. I actually like the specifics!
I really like this series!
I really like this series!
I thought this book was good and it held my interest. The story jumped around a bit, but overall it was definitely worth reading.
Karin Slaughter at her best. read this book in 1 night. loved it.
I loved this book, the two story storyline was great. This whole series of Jeffrey & Sara has been good!
I have read Slaughter's other mysteries featuring these characters and enjoyed them very much. I think this is the best one, though.
Graphic and gripping, a novel you can't put down.
Another great Karin Slaughter book with Sarah and Jeffery.
Two armed men enter the police station in tuny Heartsdale, Ga and open fire. When the shooting ends, an officer is dead, Police Cheif Jeff Tolliver is seriously wounded and the survivors - including a class of grade school children and medical examiner Sara Linton - are held hostage.
An excellent read, I couldn't put it down!

this was a good read
All of Karin Slaughter's books are fantastic reads. I accidently purchased this hardback twice. You can read any of them in any order, but you will be hooked on these characters and need to read them all.
This book was mostly about the backstory of Sara and Jeffery's past. Each book read makes you want to read the next one to find out what is going to happen to each of these characters. Karin Slaughter definitely can tell a good story.
great story line and continuation of this series - highly recommend
I like Karin Slaughter's style and her characters very much. I am looking to find the rest of the series here on PBS.
THIS BOOK I HATED TO PUT DOWN,I COULD HARDLY WAIT TO FIND OUT WHO CAUSED ALL THESE PROBLEMS AND WHY.I LOVED THIS BOOK AND THIS AUTHOR,SHE ALSO MENTIONED MY HOMETOWN IN THIS BOOK,MY DAUGHTER READ BEFORE ME AND TOLD ME ABOUT THAT I WAS REALLY SURPRISED.THIS IS A MUST READ,YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN.

Wow, this kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Very well-written; the suspense doesn't stop, but you can't put it down because you just have to know what's going to happen next. The ending didn't feel rushed, as some books can.
Great mystery.
#4
Medical examiner Sara Linton and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver make their fourth appearance in this riveting new back-and-forth thriller that grounds a brutal attack by two young men on the Grant County, Georgia police department in a twelve-year-old Alabama murder case that occurred while Sara and Jeffrey were just beginning their tumultuous romance. En route to a beach vacation shortly after they meet, the couple takes a detour to the small town where Jeffrey grew up and began his law enforcement career. But their carefree holiday is interrupted when his best friend from childhood, a fellow cop, is charged with murder after killing a man who broke into his house. Despite his subsequent confession, Jeffrey believes theres more to the story than Robert is telling him, and when the skeleton of a young woman with whom both Robert and Tolliver were once involved is discovered in a secret cave only they knew about, and Robert admits to her murder too, Tolliver must again confront a past he thought he had long since put behind him.
Slaughter unravels a convoluted story deftly and smoothly as the action moves between those long-ago events and the siege of the police station by two young men who are determined to make Jeffrey pay for a crime they believe he committed. Threatening to kill whoever stands between them and their target--including eight children on a school field trip at the station house when the bloody siege begins--they execute a deputy they mistakenly believe is Tolliver. Skillfully blending past and present events and illuminating the equally convoluted relationship between Sara and Jeffrey (who have married and divorced in the intervening years) without interrupting the breathtaking pace of the action or dropping a beat, Slaughter takes this series to a new level of excellence.
