This book contains true stories of animals who have gone on to become famous: Balto, Punxsutawney Phil, The Pacing White Mustang, Smokey Bear, Scannon, three gray whales, the cat Sugar, Blind Tom, Koko, and the Hemlock Pair. Animals, and information about animals, always seem to capture the attention of first and second graders. This is a great read aloud, read together, or read alone book and a terrific way to begin reading non-fiction!
Interesting stories about animals you know, like Punxsutawney Phil, and others you may not know like Sugar and Blind Tom. I learned a lot reading these to my children.
Like Jean George's other books, this one is great!
