Alice Hoffman's words are like poetry in this book. Hoffman books have always been a favorite. She has a gift for blending magic, history, love of nature, and a style of fiction that belongs only to her.

Alice Hoffman is one of my favorite writers, and this book is suitable for both adults and teens. Sad but beautifully written, and strangely hopeful. Persecution of Jews in Spain in the 1500s.
I love historical fiction. This book pulled me in from the very beginning. Alice Hoffman is a wonderful writer. The Inquisition was an atrocity at every level. I would highly recommend this book to young adults. It give light to an era that is probably overlooked today in many schools.
Alice Hoffman light--young adult. I prefer her adult books, but this one was interesting.
Interesting fictional read about a part in history that was devastating again to the Jewish people. This book deals with young love, the love of a secret Jewish family for each other and their true faith.
I love Alice Hoffman. Her writing style is addictive! This book was a quick read, but not as memerable as many of her others. This was more of a quick history of the persecution of the Jews. While interesting and touching, I felt myself wanting for more when I finished the last page... like the book wasn't quite finished. Not Hoffman's best book, but an interesting read.
this book is about a girl that is pretending to be a christian. When she falls in love with her best friends crush, her best friend turns her in and she has to escape with the guilt because her family is killed. Will her life ever be the same?
