This adventure is set in the world of the Uglies many years later but this stands completely on its own. It's exciting and fun. I love Westerfeld's writing and his creative world building. Part of the fun is the unique inventions, technology, etc. that are unheard of for us "Rusties" but taken for granted by these fictional characters. This is an excellent first book in this series but beware the cliffhanger ending!
