WILD MAGIC
Daine is definitely may favorite character (so far) in the Tortall books. This story was wonderful. There's lots of laughs, magic and action going on. Daine's ability to speak with animals is just too cool and the animals themselves are great side characters. It's an excellent start to another series in this world created by Pierce.

WOLF-SPEAKER
This is the second story in the series and it's beautifully done. An engrossing page-turner that will leave you wanting to keep reading until you're done. Daine continues to be my favorite character, with her ability to interact with the animals and her strong attitude. The book has an important message in it as well, in that we, as humans, need to care for the planet around us. Over-development of wildlands and pollution hurts everyone in the long run. The research regarding wolves in this book is also well-done. It's nice to see a story where the author took the time to make readers aware that wolves don't eat people (like some stories like to do). There's also a nice acknowledement from the author to her sources.

EMPEROR MAGE
Daine continues to hone her skills in this book and meets new animals and learns who her father is on an adventure that takes her across the seas. This was another page-turner in the series that I had to finish reading before I could go to sleep!

THE REALMS OF THE GODS
This was a satisfying conclusion to the Immortals series. Pierce weaves such a wonderful tale with laughs and tears that once you start reading a book, you want to keep going until you're done so you can find out what happens. These books have seriously not helped with my insomnia! :P

Orphaned when bandits torched her village, 13-year old Daine has managed to survive on her own until she finds work with the royal horsemistress. Impressed by the girl's knack with horses, Onua hires her on to help drive a herd of ponies to Tortall's capital.

It soon becomes clearn that Daine is special. Horses and other animals not only obey the girl, they come to her and seem to listen to her words. Though she refuses to admit that she may have magic, Daine can't hide the truth for long; her unpredictable powers had once led her to run with a pack of wolves. Now she fears the madness will come back, a fear that remains even after she meets powerful new friends ~ Alanna, the shifting sorcerer, and the magic-wielding king and queen themselves.

As she comes to terms with her powers and her past, Daine must help her human and animal friends battle the invading immortals...infiltrate a mining camp that hides a dangerous conspiracy...brave the court of a darkly fascinating Emperor-Mage...and embark on a perilous journey home from the realms of the gods.
