Alice Hoffman usually favors a gal who has an axe to grind. The Ice Queen is no exception. The tale is well written in a way that the reader will be intrigued throughout. I am glad that I stayed with the story to the end, as it was a fun read that satisfied my curiosity. Great characters with just a bit of woowoo blended in. Just strange enough that one wouldn't dismiss the premise or possibility of the existence of magic and wonder in the world.

It was all right, but it took a long time to get to the point.

A total waste of time.
This book was so highly recommended to me that I couldn't wait to read it. It started out great, and then melted into a pile of such medical non-fact that I just could not finish it. People do not have any of those lasting effects from having been hit by lightning. The initial trauma, that the main character felt that she caused the death of her mother simply by wishing it so, would have been enough to flesh out an interesting story, but this was just too nonsensical.
