I had never read any of James Rollins' books, but I certainly will read more in the future. It was a great page turner, full of action, thrills, suspense, and love. It's based the the Arctic Ice Cap with American and Russian military espionage with some sci-fi thrown in.
Helpful Score: 3
Very fast paced and imaginative. A very good read. I'd compare it to a Cussler or DuBrul with a touch of Sci-Fi thrown in.
Helpful Score: 3
I've read several of Rollins' books & although they all have a common thread, they're very interesting & keep you turning the pages. This author has an awesome imagination. This book is suspenseful & gripping, full of military intrique and even has a couple of romances. I highly recommend this book along with 2 of his other books: Amazonia & Excavation.

So interesting. Would have never picked this type of book up (sci-fi kind of) but so glad I did. Went on to read another of his

Excellent book-definitely on par with others like Cussler and Iles. It starts out strong and finishes strong. A definite must-read.

Fast paced. Good adventure but the good guys get out of trouble so often it got monotonous.

Having little interest in this type genre & having never read any of Rollin's work, I reluctantly agreed to read this one at my son's urging. I am glad I did so as I found it to be imaginative, captivating & an easy read which was hard to put down. I am now looking forward to "THE JUDAS STRAIN" which I have just received.

I wasnt expecting to like this book because I dont usually like war/soldier/submarine/sharp shooters, etc. you get the idea. But this book was awesome. Yea there were some scenes that included all the above, but the real story had nothing whatsoever to do with that. Its a scary thriller with unexpected twists and new concepts. A real surprise for me, I would definitely recommend to those who like a little of the "unknown"in their books.

didn't take me long to know I would not like this, from the first page it just had too many words I didn't know being Russian or something and I don't like books like that, also too many characters to keep up with and too much descriptions on every page until I just knew I couldn't go on.
I have read other Rollins books and have liked them so I'll keep trying.

I loved this book! Great plot, good characters, incredible scene descriptions. It has them all. If you start this at night, plan to be up all night...
James Rollins is one of my favorite authors. His style is fast paced and the plots are often intricate enough that you keep guessing how will the crises be resolved. If you like reading adventure stories with vivid and realistic detail, this is a book for you. I absolutely loved it and wished for more to read.
A book you will finish quickly because you can't put it down. Non-stop action. Good story line.
James Rollins is one of my favorite writers. Ice Hunt is full of adventure, excitement. I didn't want to put it down.
First time reading Rollins' book for me. Look forward to reading more. Interesting read right from page 1.
First book I've read from this author and have ordered 5 more. Great suspense. One of those.....could it really happen? If you love Clive Cussler, you'll love James Rollins.
Non-stop action, in places a wee bit farfetched, but overall a book I couldn't put down until finished....
Its a goodie! fast paced action, could happen anytime, story is not dated.

An excellent read. You won't put it down easily.
Almost any book where there the Russians are protagonists, and the Americans the good guys, count me in!
Whats to like: Action, adventure, unlikely heroes, far fetched story lines. It's all good. Makes for good reading on a long commute...as long as you're not driving...

Another great Rollins book. This touches on a controversial topic of research subjects. Great read.
great action thriller set in Antarctica.
Absolutely loved this book, as good as one of my most favorite author's books any day, Clive Cussler! In fact there is a critics comment by Clive recommending the book! Action, suspense, tiny bit of romance, along with espionage and russian/american shenanigans/past history of bad, bad things! At end of book he even lets you know what's real and what wasn't based on facts. Interestingly enough the "monsters" of the book were something I was just reading about recently in either Nat'l Geographic or Smithsonian can't remember which. Very excited to find such a great read. I intend to order many more of his books in near future as I get credits. They have history, science, action, heroes, the bravery and cowardice of ordinary folks, and an obviously brilliant author's imagination behind them.
First book of James Rollins I have read. Now a huge fan. Action packed from beginning to end. For a big surprise be sure to read the author's notes.
Great story. Very inventive.

Carved into a moving island of ice twice the size of the United States, Ice Station Grendel has been abandoned for more than seventy years. The twisted brainchild of the finest minds of the former Soviet Union, it was designed to be inaccessible and virtually invisible. But an American undersea research vessel had inadvertently pulled too close--and something has been sighted moving inside the allegedly deserted facility, something whose survival defies every natural law. And now, as scientists, soldiers, intelligence operatives, and unsuspecting civilians are drawn into Grendel's lethal vortex, the most extreme measures possible will be undertaken to protect its dark mysteries--because the terrible truths locked behind submerged walls of ice and steel could end human life of Earth."
I enjoyed this book, I could barely put it down. Trying to figure out how we would get out of the next "situation".

Good story, good writing, exciting read.
A real nail biter. Mystery and suspense, action and love. I was up all night reading this book.
One of his best stories.
Sort of like Dan Brown's "Deception Point" in that there is a government cover-up and the action takes place in the Arctic. But this book is so much better. There is constant action and so many likeable characters.
James Rollins continues to be one of my favorites with Du Brul and Reilly. Great story with great heros!!
my husband really likes this author. Says Rollins comes up with very unusual ideas.
Non-stop action - a fun read.
A good thriller with unexpected plot twists. Current science mixed with possibilities make for a good read.
Good book like all of his are, with some decent surprises at the end, but not my favorite of his
This story has more twists and turns than any other book I have read. Really enjoyed the story and the authors notes at the end were scary. If you like action and a good mystery this is the book for you.
Great author-I have read three of his books and enjoyed them all.
Another fast paced action/thriller that keeps the reader turning the pages to see what happens next! I love James Rollins' stories - they are all page turners!
Breath-takingly exciting. Can't stop reading. As always James Rollins is a master story teller. Highly recommended.
this book will keep you on your toes. the twisted and turns are always flying at you. it has an ending you will never see coming. it has many layers and lots of people to care about. the bad guys are always just one step away. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
A great fast moving keeps you on you chair edge. Janes Rollins is now one of my favor authors.
Another great thriller from James Rollins. As usual, I could not put it down in the last 100+ pages. So, plan your time ahead of picking this one up!
What a read! Excitement, monsters, and love....The action grabs you and never lets you go. I got so into it that I felt I was there! It was awesome! Oh, but wear a parka before you start reading because it will get mighty cold where your going....LOL
This is a fast paced read. A true thriller, with a surprise twist near the end.
Overdone. Too many antagonists, speculative technology that is not believable, and cardboard characters.
An American undersea research vessel has seen something alive in Ice Station Grendel, buried deep under the polar ice cap & abandoned for 70 years. Good scientific mystery
I really enjoyed this book. very suspensful and hard to put down.
Well like. Interesting story
A good read, some parts a page turner.
At times this book feels very long, but overall, a satisfying thriller from an author who really knows the genre.
Breath taking action & polar ice.

My Review
This book was very action-packed with lots of intense moments. The plot was very interesting and I learned a lot about ice caps, ice stations, grendels, frogs, science and history. What more would you want from a book.?The characters were very unique too. Some were good and some were bad but that makes for a great story. I look forward to reading more adventure books by Rollins and I would highly recommend this book to those who love adventure, history or science novels.

Ice Station Grendel is buried in the earth's polar ice cap. Abandoned for 70 years, it is discovered by an American undersea research vessel and they see something alive inside.
Great book, good adventure.
