Somewhat predictable in places, and some of the characters were a little shallow at times, but overall a good read. The main characters are filled out with backstory, giving you some insight into their choices, but some of the side characters seem to go in whatever direction is needed for the story.
This is the first of a series on Serrano (main character), so I'm considering reading the others, but not a slam dunk. If you want hard sci-fi (Niven), probably not a good fit.
On the other hand, the idea of engine / food growing tradeoff on board the ship was pretty intriguing, and I would have liked to see more about how the author thought that would work.

One of a series. Good story. Military plot. Place series is before SPORTING CHANCE.

Disgraced Fleet Capt Heris Serrano winds up as capt of rich old lady's luxury starship, but all is not as it seems- and she winds up fighting smugglers and being the human prey of a band of sportsmen who hunt humans. Lots of fun.

I could not get through all of this book. It was a big disapointment to me! Most of it was about the rich heiress and her love of horses. Boring.
