Great whodunnit mystery.

I dove into this book. It started out great, a thrilling page-turner. I gradually lost interest in the story after the first half. Some of the characters were interesting, some bored me. The plot twists were not at all surprising and I found myself skimming through much of the book toward the end. I had no doubts about the innocence of the accused. Was I supposed to think she was guilty? The story line focused on whether or not she was guilty, and it shouldn't have in my opinion. This book was mildly entertaining, the second half very disappointing, the ending too abrupt. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for another whodunit. I've definitely read better. This was my first book by John Lescraort. I'll give him another try sometime.

I really liked this book! The Hunt Club is a diversified group that came together as an investigation agency after Wyatt Hunt was forced from his job. His job of helping children in peril was very gratifying for him, but when he had to make the decision to leave the state agency, he started the Hunt Club, and in this book, they are after the killer of a well known federal judge and his mistress.

Great Book
What can I say? Lescroart doesn't write bad books. This timie, Dismas is not central to the story, but it is still San Francisco, and you'll feel at home, as a different group of good guys go after the bad, rich guys.
Quick read, very fun. The ending is a little disappointing but I loved the characters.

Excellent tale of murder, missing suspects and lots of twists to the tale. I couldn't put the book down. Not a police procedural per se which is this author's usual type book. Great read and surprises galore.

The heroes of Lescroart's popular Dismas Hardy/Abe Glitsky series (The Second Chair; etc.) have reached the point where age and professional success keep them from the gritty street-level investigations that made their adventures so good. While promising that he hasn't abandoned the duo, Lescroart keeps the action high by inaugurating a new San Francisco series, starring private investigator Wyatt Hunt and homicide detective Devin Juhle. Longtime Lescroart fans can relax: these pals are at least as interesting and enterprising as Hardy/Glitsky. Hunt's eccentric pack of friends and associates (aka the loose organization known as the Hunt Club) are investigating the murder of a federal judge and his young girlfriend. What would normally be a job for the police becomes personal after Hunt's love interest, who has connections to the judge, goes missing. Both Hunt and Juhle have appropriately troubled pasts: Hunt was forced out of a career as a child protective services officer, and Juhle is trying to live down a shoot-out that killed his last partner. As a PI, Hunt is free to detect in unorthodox and entertaining ways, while Juhle brings to bear the technical and logistic resources of official law enforcement. Most readers will agree that it's a great combination, both on the job and on the page.

Good read... Started slow and a little confusing, he uses first names, then last names, had to go back to see who was who. Once it got going it zipped by couldn't put it down, glad I stuck with it.
One of the main reasons I love John Lescroarts books is the sparkling repartee between characters. Wyatt Hunt and Devin Juhle have a great time giving each other digs and barbs; it reminds the reader that these are just plain guys who are doing difficult things.
Because I find Dismas Hardy and Abe Glitsky to be such attractive men, it was difficult to transfer my interest in a new character. However, Lescroart is a master of the series and he uses two secondary characters to help us make the transition: Amy Wu and Wes Farrell. Wes is the king of amazing t-shirt slogans; where does he get all those zingers?
Another thing I love about Lescroarts books is the use of a city (San Francisco) as a backdrop and canvas upon which the characters and action move. Is there a city as politicized as San Francisco? The author has an understanding of the complexity of the citizens attitudes, as well as the politics that have a strong influence on how San Francisco operates.
As usual, Lescroart creates a fascinating back story for Wyatt Hunt. After just a couple of chapters, I felt I understood what made Wyatt tick; the author has the knack for explaining character in just a few hundred words.

This is a hard cover book. This is not one of his best but I love his books.
The plot of this book is gripping. It is quite a surprise ending and I'm sure that enthusiasts of police procedurals will enjoy this immensely.
I think Lescroart is going starting a new character series and this is the first book. Wyatt Hunt starts his own PI firm. This book lays the foundation for future books.

Still set in San Francisco, Hunt becomes involved in the murder of a federal judge and his mistress and the disappearance of a television personality... The beginning of the novel is promising and it is not long before you find yourself immersed in the intrigue however, for far too long, the story is allowed to meander without apparent purpose until as the end comes into sight, Lescroart finds his feet again and puts some very interesting finishing touches to it.
This is a novel that does not beg for or even promise a sequel. It can easily be a stand alone book and if there are no further adventures of Wyatt Hunt, that will be alright with me. Hopefully, if Mr. Hunt is to have some longevity in future novels, the author will find something about him to make him relevant to those of us who admire his writing.

excellent read
Super story with wild plot twist at end.

Another great John Lescroart book. New main characters that are just as interesting and Dismas and Abe. I've read every one of his books and enjoyed them all.
From the writer of the Dismas Hardy/Abe Glitsky books - the author develops a new character - Wyatt Hunt, a child services worker turned PI. Great read - suspenseful and well crafted. You won't be disappointed.
This was a fun book. There were engaging characters (although there were enough secondary characters for things to get a little confusing) and an interesting plot. Lescroart did a great job building suspense without resorting to anything particularly gory/heinous/extreme. I'd definitely read more from Lescroart.

A great book. Seemed to start a little slow as the characters are introduced but picks up speed and readability quickly. Didn't want to put it down as the story developed.

John Lescroat always spins a good tale. Has added some new fun characters, but stories still take place in San Francisco. It's always fun to read about places I've visited or eaten at while visiting there.

Their common interest is obstructing justice one way or another. But they don't mind having a little fun along the way, and thats exactly what they're doing one late spring night at a San Francisco bar...
One of them is missing the festivities though. Homicide inspector Devin Juhle has just caught a major case: the shooting death of a 63 year old federal judge and his twentysomething mistress. While Juhle works, Hunt plays hooking up with TV star and legal analyst Andrea Parisi-once he escorts her safely home and sobers her up that is.

This was good. This new character is alsmost as good as Dismas Hardy who also appears briefly in this book. A lot of the same characters turn up in this book as in the Dismas Hardy books. If you are a fan of Lescroart, he's just doing a "spin-off" for a new series
Fun read. Lots of action, humor, and even a little romance. This is the first book from this author that I have read, and I will definitely look for others.
I would certainly select another book by Lescroart; I definitely enjoyed this one.

Absolutely great. I couldn't put it down and was sorry to see it end. I certainly hope this is the start if a new series. Wyatt Hunt is a likable PI, not afraid to push the envelope, but it will keep you interested. I figured out the killer too soon, so I wasn't surprised at the ending, but it didn't hurt my enjoyment of the book. Highly recommend.
I thought John Lescroart could not have better characters than Dismas Hardy and Abe Glitsky. I was wrong. Great characters (again) and a great book!
