Hunk for the Holidays
Author: Katie Lane
Always putting business before pleasure, Cassie McPherson works hard for her family's construction business. That might explain why she doesn't have a date for the company Christmas party. But it doesn't quite explain why she's crazy enough to hire an escort for the event or - crazier still - why she's dying to unwrap him like a present . . . — W...  more »

I received this book free through GoodReads first reads.

Cassie McPherson is from a lively Scottish family where they pride themselves in being able to hold their whisky and being a strong close family. The trouble is Cassie is tired of the questions about her love life so she has started hiring escorts to accompany her to various big company parties and gatherings. She is her fathers right hand woman in their family owned construction company and is also known as the ice princess. But all that changes when her newest escort, James, walks into her life.

What starts off as a case of mistaken identity soon turns into a sincere mutual affection and a enjoyable friendship. There are a lot of obstacles and calamities along the way, a lot of side characters lending there comedy to the pages.

Based on the cover of this book, I thought I was going to be reading something ultra cheesy. Instead I found myself enjoying a charming Christmas romance with plenty of giggles and plenty of heat. I really, really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that I wished it was longer. I could spend another 300 pages with the McPherson clan. They are wildly entertaining. I hope the author plans on writing more about this family. I would love for Aunt Wheezie to work her matchmaking magic on the single McPherson boys.

Cassie and James were an fabulous lead couple. This book was a lot of fun and just what I needed right now.

When I first read the premise behind this book I was a bit hesitant. I wasn't sure how this was going to work but at the time I was craving contemporaries and I've always enjoyed Romeo and Juliet esque stories. Unfortunately this book just did not work for me or rather it just seemed a bit over the top. I felt as if this book was trying too hard and it just left me with a blah feeling.

Cassie McPherson is always putting her work before everything. She works hard at her family construction business and usually doesn't have time to date or have fun. Because of this she never has time to meet anyone, so when she has to attend business functions or events she enlists in a local escort service. She never crosses the line with the guys hired and she has never even wanted to, but when James walks in all bets are off. Immediately Cassie finds herself attracted to the sexy stranger and is finding it very difficult to keep her hands to herself. Maybe just this one time she can let loose and have fun.

James Sutton has no idea what he's in for when he sets eyes of Cassie. He's showed up for a supposed meeting with Al McPherson and now he's playing along and acting as Cassie's male escort. Just one look at the sexy Cassie and he couldn't help himself. He knows it's wrong to deceive her and he should tell her the truth but figures it can wait.

The chemistry between these two is electric and I liked watching them together, I just felt like some of the things that happen with them are a bit contrived. I would have liked to have seen them together a bit more. The relationship felt a bit rushed and I just didn't really feel like they really fell in love with one another. Also, it was really hard for me to buy into the fact that Cassie is hiring male escorts for dates. I find it very hard to believe that a woman as successful and attractive as Cassie, feels the need to use an escort service.

I think a part of my problem with the book is everything that is going on outside of James and Cassie's relationship. We are meeting new characters and seeing new story-lines that I felt detracted from James and Cassie's relationship. Don't get me wrong, I loved the bits we were shown between Amy and Rory, but I don't feel like we needed to see that. In fact, I would have much rather they got their own book because I was far more fascinated with their story than that of James and Cassie.

All in all, this book was okay for me.
