Well on a positive note, this book did keep my interest and I did like the main character, Lily and her true love Nick. I loved the location of the story... various spots in New England that are close to home. It takes place in the 30's which is an era I love to read about, however, I found this book to be too melodramatic and predictable for my taste. Much of the story is a little too contrived and fairy tail-ish.

I don't think I would categorize this book as historical fiction despite its setting and the backdrop of the Hurricane of 1938. It is mostly just a love story where the princess is beautiful and perfect and her knight in shining armor puts her on a pedestal and defends her honor. There is also Budgie, Lily's " best friend" who has no redeeming qualities. And there is Lily's mother whose actions have such an impact on Lily's life and yet she remains so one dimensional. No clue to her thoughts and motivations or what ultimately happens to her.

If you enjoy a light, quick fairy tale escape with lots of discussions about love then this is the book for you but if you are looking for a read with more substance, then I would skip this book.

Historical fiction with mystery, intrigue and quite a few twists around a few corners! There are two story lines going on, with 7 years in between and it was different and I loved it! Reading the story of how these friends met and got to know each other while at the same time reading them reunite and confront things from the past was so unique.

The reader knows from the beginning that there is drama and just can't wait to get all the pieces to put the puzzle together. Although there were a few characters that I didn't love, that didn't keep me from loving the book, it was nice to read characters that were despicable and still love the story.
