I read this years ago before we got our first puppy. It was so helpful getting me to understand what a dog is capable of learning at different stages. There were all sorts of "tests" you can do to assess the puppy before you choose it so you get the right temperment for the kind of personality you want. The training skills were very helpful and I feel like this book helped me raise a very good dog indeed.
very practical with drawings and photos. Good for raising a puppy with kids around.
This book is written by a person who really knows her business!! She has raised and trained puppies for years and knows what she writes about.

I was told to get this book by several people who raved about it. It was a great book, with lots of training tips and good advice. Unfortunately, I knew all of what it told me to do! It would be a great book for a beginner puppy owner.
Topics include: Teaching commands: Come, sit, down, no biting, stay, Communicating with your voice and your hands, Testing your puppy's tempermant, dominance and submission, teaching good manners etc.
