This book was disarmingly charming. Subtracting half a star because Veronica's diaries were boring and I have a heart of coal.

I'd rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. When I first started reading it, it was slow for me and I wondered if I really wanted to continue or not. My love of penguins made me keep going. As I learned more about the early life of Veronica and I saw her love for the penguins when she arrived in Antarctica, the book became more interesting. It was worth the read.

This book was surprisingly delightful! Some wonderful characters! Veronica is a cantankerous, elderly proper English lady in the beginning. The transformation as she takes a journey and opens her heart again is a joy to experience. It is bittersweet in places but fun and humorous as well. I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting to. It will have a place in my heart.
