This was a new author for me and I enjoyed the protagonist, Nora Blackbird. She is from "old money" (her parents) but now broke since her parents took off to places unknown with what is left of the family fortune (conveniently in off-shore accounts). She has a 2 million dollar tax debt and has to get a job for the first time in her life. She and her two sisters, Emma and Libby, work together to find a friend's killer. They discover stuff about her parents' friends they wished they'd never known. I think I am going to enjoy this series.

I thought I would give the series a try. Some of the reviews I read compared the series favorably to Janet Evanovich. In reality the series is readable, but not very funny with very little depth in the characters. A decent series to pass the time, but not if you are looking for something with meat in it. These books are okay bedtime reading in that they will not cause you to have bad dreams--or good ones either.

I almost put this down because it started out a bit slow for me. Thankfully, I kept reading and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed it and plan on reading the whole series.

The first in the Blackbird Sisters Mysteries. Not a bad attempt. The plot was decent & kept you wondering until the end who the culprit was. Loved the sexual tension between Nora Blackbird & tough-guy Michael Abruzzo. I'd like to see their relationship develope further and would also like Nora to gain more depth.

First in The Blackbird Sisters Mysteries. Looking forward to reading the others in the series.
My parents blew the country for a sunny resort that catered to American tax evaders, leaving the family art collection to my sister Emma and the furniture to my sister Libby. They gave me the land--and a property tax bill for two million dollars. Which is why I, Nora Blackbird, a former socialite who never really held a job in all my thirty-one years, found myself in dire need of a paycheck...
Now Nora has a job as a society page columnist for a Philadelphia paper. This down-and-almost-out former debutante is happy to reclaim her place within the city's elite. Until her first party assignment, when she stumbles upon the murdered body of the host--a millionaire art collector and old family friend. Her sisters--sexy, hard-edged Emma and flaky earth mother Libby, who has her hands full with husband number two and four kids--only complicate matters as Nora investigates. And meanwhile the son of a rumored New Jersey crime boss is pursuing her with bone-melting come-ons she can barely resist. Priorities, Nora, think priorities...

Former socialite Nora Blackbird found she had to get a job to stay ahead of the tax collectors. She finds a job is as a society page columnist. On her first party assignment, Nora stumbles over the murdered body of a millionaire art collector who was an old family friend. When the police ask for her help in questioning the party goers, Nora decides she is going to solve the murder with the help of her sisters Libby and Emma.
This is a good start to the Blackbird Sisters cozy mystery series. Nora is a smart heroine who is trying to get out from under the debt her parents left her in. She also has a hot guy named Mike Abruzzo trying to get to know her better. The story is well plotted and I never guessed who the villain was. My rating: 4 Stars.

This story was so much fun I was sorry to see this one end. I'm now officially a Nancy Martin Fan.
It's been a while since I read a cozy because they all started to feel the same. Different people, different locations, the same damn story. when I started to wonder if there was one person with a boatload of pseudonyms I gave up on them.
I loved the Blackbird sisters - such a hoot! All three of them. One of Nora's sisters is dependable; the other is a loon. Guess which one lives closest? And the new man in her life? Move over Joe Morelli, I think you are about to be dethroned.
