I found this book totally informative. I now have a far better idea of how doctors get to a diagnosis and what goes into their thoughts.

I've also learned that we should never totally rely on their opinions about the findings on our x-rays, CT scans, etc. Whenever the test results are given to several specialists the findings are frequently different from one another. One might feel the results are negative and another might have spotted a small cancer. Apparently this is quite common. I found this scary. It makes me think that we might need to request a reading by more than one person.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants a better understanding of their health. It is written in plain language, totally easy to understand. It also goes into detail about how a doctor feels when his own health is in question. It might surprise you.

Everything written by Dr.Groopman is excellent reading.

I started this book, but I lost interest. I am basically a rationalist (I work well with decision trees), but this became to opaque for me.

This is a wonderfully wise and sensitive disquisition on the interactions of physicians and patients, how these interactions should ideally go, where they can go wrong, and what both patients (and their families) and physicians can do to help insure that they go right. Groopman's insights into these complex relationships are precise and delicate, and his prose is equally precise yet never cold or dry.
