This memoir by Jennifer Hudson was a very fascinating read. Well written and engaging, it chronicles her rise to fame and her struggle with being overweight. Jennifer details her childhood, life with her mother and siblings and her early desire to become a singer. What's most interesting is that Jennifer always had high self esteem even when she was overweight. It was the Hollywood machine that gave her grief about her weight and tried to shape her into something else. My major problem with this book is that it does not address her family tragedy. It is amazing that she could write a book and not discuss the murders of her brother, mother and nephew. It's shocking that the publisher let her get away with this. It makes the book less authentic. Overall, I enjoyed the read but there is a huge hole in her story.

As much I love and have loved Jennifer Hudson since American Idol, I did not love this book - to be honest, I didn't even read the last chapter because I was so over it. The story jumps from one milestone to the next without much lead up or explaination in between. Also, she never goes into detail about her family tragedy, which to me, had a huge impact on her life and what follwed.
Jennifer is quite self confident, which is great! Being a full figured woman myself, it's very inspiring. However, at some points I feel that she boardlined on arrogence - and that bothered me.
I was very much anticipating this book and am saddened by such a huge disappointment.
