Claire was hard to like. As a compulsive liar, she connived her way through any situation to get what she wanted. And she pulled nasty pranks to scare people (a la Fatal Attraction). When she finally horned her way into a domestic position, she spied on her employers, snooped through their possessions, and tried to seduce the husband. She had a score to settle and she pulled out all the stops. How can anyone warm up to a person like that, right?

But when Claire began to bond with their infant daughter, a protective instinct kicked in and soon she discovered that her crazy scheme of revenge had definitely turned against her.

That's when Claire the plotter became Claire the hunted, the plot twists with nail-biting tension, and suddenly she morphs into a character of substance.

The Housekeeper may not win any awards, but it's thrilling entertainment at 3.5 stars.
