I received this audio from Tantor Audio and LibraryThing for an honest review.
This story is a locked-room mystery. The setting is Salisbury England and the time frame is Christmas holidays. Atticus Priest has been dismissed from his CID police position and is now a private detective who suffers from Aspergers. There has been four murders from one family at a white farmhouse in the woods. The surviving family member, Ralph Mallender, is charged with the murder. DCI Mackenzie Jones, with whom Atticus has had a prior relationship, is working with him to solve this crime. Atticus feels that there is definitely more to these murders and he is bound to prove it.
Since this is a start of a new series, I found this book was mainly introducing us to the two main characters. I found the court room scenes very interesting. About midway the story takes off and the book is hard to put down. It has a clever plot with lots of twists which kept me guessing until the very surprise ending. I'm now looking forward to the 2nd book in the series and recommend this book to those who enjoy police procedurals.
