A hard to read book covers a riveting topic, the captivity of a young, somewhat naive Canadian traveler. The opening chapters cover Amanda Lindhout's early life and "globe trekker" style travels. The shadow of the kidnapping you know is coming hangs over the early part of the book. Her travels eventually bring her to Somalia as a freelance journalist. Her kidnapping and captivity, which last over a year, are terrifying and distressing. While not graphic, the violence described is disturbing. I can't say I thought the book awesome, but definitely thought provoking.
