I wanted to like this book. I really did. I enjoyed Rachel Neumeier's previous work, despite the sometimes tongue-mangling names that she came up with.

Instead, I was left very confused through the first 1/3 of the book, only starting to see how things came together when the halfway point had passed. The worldbuilding is the strongest point of this book. The details, the background, the setting - I enjoyed all of that. But the rest of it was, as I said, very confusing. I almost wish that it had been longer, because it felt like there was quite a bit happening at the end.

Overall, I feel like there was such potential with this story but it was all wasted.
