This is a short little book of 192 pages despite PBS listing the book at 288 pages.
It is an older mystery written in about 1987 or so. The author wrote 5 books in this series Jan, Feb, March April and May. I did not find a JUNE book listed. Then it appears that she didnt write any other books even another series.
The author did a great job of giving the characters very different names to distinquish one from another, very important because many of the characters are just a blurr of names, as we dont really get to know them too well.
Our main character is very likeable Balthazar Marten of NYC. He is sent undercover to Puerto Rico. He is paired up with a "driver" by the name of Sixto Cardenas. Add in some bland other police officers, some victims and some suspects. Some stand out. Sixto turns out to be more than a driver as he is great assest to Marten as they solve the case together.
The cover might lead you to believe it is a cozy, and although the crimes are not graphic, it is a police procedural book. And a very well done one at that. There is a lot of reference to police profiling of the criminal mind, which was very interesting and kept me reading. I enjoyed the process of thinking that the two main characters use.
I plan to read the rest of the books in the series.
