Hot Gimmick isnt your usual girl-oriented manga from Japan. Instead of a female lead the reader and project herself into, surrounded by hot men to court the girl, youre instead given Hatsumi, a girl you can barely respect because she cant stand up for herself, and while there are attractive men in her life the entertainment of this series comes from the train-wreck that is Hatsumis life. Its a serious of unfortunate events the reader will find they just cant get enough of Hatsumis misery . Miki Aihara will keep readers guessing as to what is the next punch is life will throw at Hatsumis face as each volume further into the series strives to outdo the last in such a manner that would put some Soap Operas to shame. Word of advice though, Hatsumis character is at time so subservient it might rattle the minds of some overtly feminist thinkers, but this is a guilty pleasure in a sense, and Miki Aihara knows how to write a juicy drama.
This series does have mature themes so I wouldnt suggest it to anyone below the high school age level.

One of my favorite manga series! All of the characters we so "real" that I did not find myself getting bored with the series as it progressed.
Yes, Hatsumi is a real pushover, but part of her charm was that she was all too aware of this fact and was frustrated with herself over this. Also, her inner fantasies on how she wanted to deal with Ryoki versus how she actually dealt with him were very entertaining. And it proved that she was not a sugary sweet manga heroine who never has a bad thought about anyone...ever.
This series is not for kids, but older teens and adults will enjoy it. Check it out...if only to see Subaru acting all awkward around Akane.
