Four gorgeous nighttime predators bid farewell to bachelorhood in this uneven quartet of sensual paranormal romances. Surprisingly, Feehan's "Dark Hunger," depicting the romance between an immortal Carpathian and a spirited shape-shifter, is the weakest of the lot. Feehan struggles with the short form; she tries to cram everything she would normally put in a novelmultiple conflicts, a full cast of characters and an abundance of love scenesinto a mere 100 pages, and the result is a frenetic tale lacking emotional intensity, plausibility and focus. The stories improve progressively, however, with Shayne delivering a tightly wrought werewolf romance in "Awaiting Moonrise" and Holly offering a sexy, shockingly kinky romance ("The Night Owl") between a vampire and a smalltown baker. The most inventive of the four is "Seduction's Gift." Knight imagines a magical world where Magi, immortal champions of humankind commonly referred to as "witches" and "vampires," wield their powers to save humanity from itself. These immortal champions include the legendary King Arthur, Guinevere and the hero of this tale, Lord Lancelot du Lac, assassin and High Court seducer. All the stories suffer to some degree from an overabundance of lust and sex and a dearth of emotional connection, but fans of the genre aren't likely to mind.

For an anthology, all of these stories were surpisingly good and well-written.

"Dark Hunger" by Christine Feehan
This story takes place within Christine Feehan's Dark series and tells the story of Riordan de la Cruz and his lifemate Juliette. But Juliette has a secret identity of her own, as well as her own agenda protecting her sister and cousin. Definitely a romance but enough other action going on to hold my interest throughout.

"Awaiting Moonrise" by Maggie Shayne
Jenny Rose is a university professor who travels to the bayou of Louisiana to research tales of a possible unknown, and as yet undiscovered, species of mammal. But she meets up with the town's sexy (and single) doctor, whose interest in her is more than just academic. I enjoyed this one even more than the Feehan story.

"The Night Owl" by Emma Holly
This story takes place within Emma Holly's Midnight series (Catching Midnight, Hunting Midnight, Courting Midnight) and if you like to read series in order, is best read after Hunting Midnight since it tells the continuing tale of Bastien and Emile who first appear in that book. It was a good story, though I probably didn't like it quite as much as Shayne's contribution.

"Seduction's Gift" by Angela Knight
Grace Morgan is a Latent, she has the Gift of the Mageverse but would rather live in the real world serving and protecting fellow humankind in the role of a deputy police officer. But her grandmother, Morgana le Fay, sends Lord Lancelot du Luc to seduce her and bring her over, activating her Gift with the act of lovemaking, at least 3 times.

This is the second short story I've read by Angela Knight that takes place in the Mageverse series, the first one being "Galahad" which appeared in the Bite anthology, though that one actually takes place later in the series. I didn't really care for "Galahad" all that much as I couldn't get into the whole Knights of the Round Table as Vampires thing... but for some reason, I liked this one a little better. Perhaps because it's actually the first story in the tale. But because so many others thought it was great, I didn't want to judge the series by a short story and I've since acquired the other books of the Mageverse series. If anything, this story has forced me to move Master of the Night closer to the top of my TBR pile.

There wasn't one story I didn't like! There were all very fast reads, one story per night actually, I couldn't put the book away! I just got it 5 days ago so that tells you how good it is.

I think I liked "Awaiting Moonrise" the best, but it has a close runner up with the
"Seductions' Gift" story - this one is a new twist on an old vampire theroy, very cool, very imaginative. Hats off to the writer.

Dark Hunger is a Carpaithian story, which I do love reading those (I even go back to the dark celebration book after I read one of her short stories to see if she put them in the celebration book, to see who's doing what by then)

The Night Owl- is a pretty taime and sweet vampire story.

This is a short story collection from 4 writers. Admittedly, I got this book to read one of them - Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan (part of her Carpathian series). In reading the other stories, I also found them wonderful. There is romance and action - and the creativity in each story gives you a different perspective of vampires and werewolves. I would recommend that you give this one a chance.

Four Paranormal Romantic Erotic Stories -
Christine Feehan - could not finish reading - stilted dialogue - just bad writing.
Maggie Shayne - a nice introduction to the author, good smart characters and interesting quick plot.
Emma Holly - She's a pro. Characters are multidimensional, vulnerable and delightful. Sex is HOT.
Angela Knight - Good story but a little heavy on the world building for a short story. Love me some Lancelot legend though.
3 out of 4 are strong - Recommended.

Good book for a trilogy although I wish the stories were longer as you wonder what happened to the characters especially in Hot Blooded Dark Hunger. I wish it had been a book by itself with more to it although it was a good read. If you like Christine's book you will enjoy this one.

This was the first Christine Feehan writing I had ever read and I was completely hooked. Since I read her short story I have gone on to read most of the "Dark" series and haven't looked back. Absolutely mesmerizing story that grabs your attention from the first page and on the last page you can't believe it's ended because you want it to go on and on. Highly recommended!

These books are wonderful, I have most of the books about the
Carpathians except the ones orderd. I love the books on warewolfs, darkhunters, all of them but I prefer romance due to
my ability to get involved in the story and picture it in my
mind. It is the way I let go of stress and anxiety.

Hot Blooded is an absolutely wonderful anthology that perfectly blends the four unique writing styles of the best paranormal writers around today - Christine Feehan, Maggie Shayne, Emma Holly and Angela Knight.

Emma Holly's "The Night Owl" was one of my favorites, about a Bed and Breakfast owner who is a vampire with some issues.

My other favorite was Angela Knight's "Seduction's gift," which is by far the best entry in this collection. It lays the groundwork for "Master of The Night," her full length novel.

Didn't care for the Feehan story, but I've found her stories boring; just not my "cup of tea."

I got this book because of the Angela Knight story, as I wanted to start the Mageverse series. I liked her story, and I found myself liking the others a bit also, even though I'm not a big fan of anthologies. I think I liked Emma Holly's story the least... I just never really liked the hero very much. All of these stories felt a bit rushed and short, but I may be interested in more of Feehan's work now. Definitely going to read more Angela Knight! The book was an ok read if you're looking for series fill-ins.

i found the first 3 stories to be really good with my favorite being The Night Owl by Emma Holly...the last story lost me after the fourth page so i didn't read it. Overall it was a good choice for my first gothic erotica.
