I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

"Hostage Taker" drew me in from the very first chapter. The action started almost immediately, and didn't stop until the very last chapter. There was a good mix of character background thrown in with the plot; what I would expect from the first book in a series. The writing and writing style were great, I felt like I was watching a movie, not just reading a book. It was easy to visualize what was happening. There were a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming which is always nice in a thriller. On the negative side, there were alternating viewpoints and for me, it was a little bit confusing to keep everyone straight for about the first third of the book but it eventually got easier as we went along.

The lack of the last star is because I didn't like how the last few chapters played out. No, I guess they were fine, I didn't like who was behind everything, it seemed thrown together at the last second. They story played out well, just not who it was. It didn't feel right. I liked the 'idea' of who it was, just not who it actually turned out to be. That may seem confusing if you haven't read it, but it's the best way I can describe it. Over all, a really good book. I recommend it if you're looking great for a thriller, in what I expect will be a great, long-lasting series.
