Julie's latest release was at the tip-top of my Top 5 Most Anticipated Books for 2010 list. I simply could not wait to get my hands on her newest 'passionate' creation so I could find out what the O'Connor family has been up to. They have become like an extension of my own family, whom I love very much.

It was love at first sight *word* in my case. I fell head-over-heels in love while reading A Passion Most Pure and couldn't read the rest of the series fast enough. Julie's Daughters of Boston series has carved out their very own spot on my keeper shelf, and it looks like her Winds of Change series will have a spot to call their own as well. While I can't say A Hope Undaunted is my favorite of Julie's books, A Passion Most Pure still holds that title, I did enjoy reading Katie's story.

As another blogger/reviewer pointed out in her review, Katie's story plays out a little too much like Faith's as far as the love-triangle aspect. Even though it adds a hold-your-breath facet to the story, another thing I found to be similar was the drama that revolved around the "pillar" that holds the O'Connor family together -- their father, Patrick. This being said, there were lots of new twists and turns to enjoy while Katie and Jack, along with Luke, find out what God's plans are for their lives.

The O'Connors acquire some new friends, one of which had me in stitches throughout the book -- Gabriella "Gabe" Smith. She was the 'life of the party' anytime she played a part in Katie's story! I also enjoyed meeting Allie Moser, who touched my heart with her tragic plight. I sincerely hope we will be seeing more of her in Sean and Emma's story, A Heart Revealed. Just from the brief glimpse, I think Allie would make a fabulous match for the youngest O'Connor son, Steven. *hint, hint* ;)

If you haven't read Julie's Daughters of Boston series -- what are you waiting for?!?! Get a move on, so you'll be all caught up and ready to start her new series, Winds of Change!

Julie Lessman once again exceeds expectations!! A Hope Undaunted is the best book I have ever read! The Romantic Passion and tention keeps you at the edge of your seat! Once you pick it up you cant put it done! Job well done once again!

I have very mixed feelings about this book. While well-written, I found the excessive use of period appropriate jargon a little heavy handed and distracting. While the faith aspect seemed sound, the excessive sensuality and drinking was unexpected for the genre. It will be a while before I consider other titles in the series or by this author.

Katie O'Connor is a spunky young woman with high standards for herself and the man she will marry. But when she breaks her father's curfew with Jack one too many times, she finds herself punished for the summer. Her punishment? Spend the summer volunteering at the Boston Children's Aid Society, which she finds makes her childhood nemesis, Luke McGee, her boss.

I LOVED reading A Hope Undaunted! Katie, being the baby of the O'Connor family, was always a minor character and seeing her all grown up now was unbelievable.

A Hope Undaunted was a wonderful book and I highly recommend it. I would strongly suggest that you read the Daughters of Boston Series before you read this book - as this story is a continuation of a family saga. Julie Lessman's books are my all-time favorites, ones I can read again and again!

Where does one begin to describe the amazing talent of Julie Lessman? Whether you're looking at the character development, or the intricate details of setting, you can be sure that Julie Lessman never fails to impress!

I've never been to Boston, or lived in the 1920's, but Julie makes me feel like I've been transported back in time; like I've walked right into the pages of the book. I can see the family gathered around the table, I can hear the crackle of the fire, I can feel the pain of a dear friend who has suffered a terrible loss, I can smell the sweetness of a beloved father's pipe, and I can almost taste the sweet tartness of a tall glass of lemonade. Julie's writing skills are spot on, and always leave me wanting to read more and more!

Even though the story takes place in the late 1920's, you can see how this story could take place now, in present-day America. The trials that people faced then are very similar to those that many of us face now. And even though the O'Connor family is fictitious, we can come away from the story knowing that we've been shown an example of how we're to follow God's precepts in all of our circumstances. Through the lives of the characters, we can be entertained, while at the same time nurture our soul with reminders of God's love and the undaunted hope that we can only find in a relationship with Him.

If you love a satisfying, well written story, filled with love, passion, excitement, twists, turns, and surprises . . . look no further! A Hope Undaunted is just what you're looking for. I highly recommend this book without any reservations! Just be sure to read Julie's Daughters of Boston series first before you dive into the Winds of Change series. You'll be so glad that you did!

I have been anticipating A Hope Undaunted for well over a year now, and before I even cracked the spine, I knew I would be in for a rollercoaster ride of passion and drama. In that respect, A Hope Undaunted did not disappoint one bit. But I have to confess that while Julie Lessman is on my favorite authors list right under Francine Rivers, I just did not love this book. I know I'm probably one of the few in that category, but I have to be honest. I liked it, but I didn't love it...there really is a difference.

Having gotten to know young Katie O'Connor in the Daughters of Boston series, I knew her personality wouldn't have changed much from childhood to an older teenager. She was a spoiled brat in the first series, and she was a spoiled brat through about the first half of this book. I couldn't seem to get past her selfish nature that popped up all over the place. And the other half of the time, she couldn't seem to make up her mind which I chalked up to immaturity and wanting to be free from her father's strict rules. Another thing that bothered me in regards to Katie was that she was eighteen years old, and in between two guys with lots of emotions flying all over the place. In spite of her father's summer plans to keep her away from bad boy Jack, she still managed to get into, what I thought were, compromising situations with Luke at the Boston Children's Aid Society. Now, her parents really liked Luke over Jack, as did I, but I think if they knew what was happening between Katie and Luke in the workplace, that whole situation would've been nipped in the bud quicker than a blink. All that aside, how Katie responded to all of her emotions was completely normal for someone her age. She wanted so badly to exercise her freedom that she sometimes made unwise decisions regarding her feelings, not to mention that both Luke and Jack were on the receiving end of her emotional decisions.

Julie is known for writing edgy, romantic, Christian fiction, and every bit of that was present in this book. But compared to her 3 previous novels, the edginess was actually toned down in this book. There was more focus on the relationships between the characters, especially Faith and Collin and Marcy and Patrick. Even though I wasn't a fan of Katie as a whole, the romance, and especially the kissing scenes, between her and Luke were explosive! I don't think Julie will ever lose her touch in that department! Between the edginess and the romance, you'd think there'd barely be enough space for anything else, but the Christian elements in this book were simply perfect. And if you're not careful, Julie may just step on your toes a bit with more Biblical truths than your Sunday morning preacher.

Even though A Hope Undaunted was my least favorite book featuring the O'Connor clan, I will never grow tired of getting my O'Connor fix just like Karen Kingsbury fans have to get their Baxter family fix. I hope the wait won't be long between A Hope Undaunted and her next book, A Heart Revealed, which will tell the story of Sean and Emma. I have loved Emma's quiet nature from the moment she was first introduced in the Daughters of Boston series. There's no doubt in my mind that their story will be a good one. :o)

The boy she loved to hate becomes the man she hates to love..." Whew! If that one line doesn't get you, I don't know what will! In her fourth book, Julie continues the story of the O'Connor family with the story of feisty Katie. The youngest of the O'Connor clan, readers of the Daughter's of Boston series will remember her as a spunky, sassy little girl too big for her britches. And no one can forget cocky Cluny McGee, the bane of her 10 year-old existence! You can only imagine the sparks that fly when these two get within 3 feet of each other. Once again, Julie weaves love, devotion, and of course passion into a story you wont want to end! Another swoon-worthy read from Julie Lessman!
