Meg Brooks is determined to cast aside her hoydenish ways and finally catch a husband. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of likely matrimonial candidates in tiny Harmony, Montana--until handsome Matthew Gage arrives in town. What Meg doesn't know is that Matthew, masquerading as mild-mannered salesman Vernon Wilberforce, is really a reporter who's in Harmony to prove that her brother cheated in order to win the grand prize in the town's annual fly-fishing contest.
Matthew thinks the lovely, innocent Meg is the perfect information source for his latest sensational story, but it isn't long before he's entranced by the natural, honest charm she's trying to hide beneath proper ladylike ways. Meg, on the other hand, is busy falling head over heels in love with the attractive newcomer to Harmony. But sooner or later, Matthew's real identity must be revealed. Will Meg forgive him for his deception? And can Matthew, a self-proclaimed bachelor, come to terms with having his heart stolen by the impetuous Meg?

A stunt reporter, Matthew Gage, goes undercover in Montana to investigate the cheating reported in the town's famous annual fly-fishing contest. Gage, who is masquerading as "Vernon Wilberforce" meets innocent Meg Brooks who is hiding a few issues of her own and the romp begins. Toss in a suffragette grandmother with activist plans and a beau of her own and the endearing, funny, heartwarming story goes on.

NOTE: Please read these stories in order; the characters have back stories that build through the novels.

If Meg Brooks ever plans to marry (gosh, she's almost on the shelf at 20 years of age), she'd best give up her wild ways and pay close attention to Mrs. Wolcott (at her finishing school, from book one). Life in a small town like Harmony is hard for tomboys and eccentrics. Thus, Meg becomes Margaret and she settles down to a controlled life of buttoned gloves, big hats and hot tea.

Matthew Gage is an investigative reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle who ferrets out corruption and cheating. He arrives in Harmony as Vernon Wilberforce, a Bissell carpet sweeper salesman, bent on winning the local fishing contest. There's still twittering about cheating in last year's fishing contest and Matthew has come to tell all. Unfortunately, it turns out that the scandal swirls about Meg's brother, who is now away at college.

This is a unique plot with lots of charming characters and funny situations. The two main characters, intent on showing new personas, instead attract their opposite to their true selves. Lovely.
