This book is ok. I would add it to your pile of books to read when considering homeschooling, but not necessarily at the top of the pile. There are "real life" stories from several homeschooling families, but these seem to follow the same general script. It is useful for peeking into some homeschools, but there isn't very much variety among the stories, and all the families seem to personally know the authors. There is nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't make for very interesting reading. There is also a focus on the legal implications of homeschooling, but since the book was written in 1982, the laws may have changed many times since then. Everyone is very honest in telling their stories, which is nice, and there isn't much sugarcoating over the *realities* of schooling children at home.

All in all, it's a quick easy read that gives you knowledge about homeschooling families and I would reccomend it, if just to see how far homeschooling has come legally, and to get a sense "I can do this!" even if it's difficult.

Home spun schools presents a concept whose time has came, and , as in the past, Raymond and Dorothy Moore find themselves at the forefront of this national movement.

This is a very encouraging book full of first hand accounts of home school expeirences. The majority of the stories take place in the late 70's when homeschooling was alomst unknown and sometimes illegal. It is interesting to see what has changed on the world of home education and what has stayed the same.
Even thought the acounts are around 30 years old they give a honest peek into home schools where the parents have embraced the best interests of their children despite social and school pressures to not do so.
