Author: Ann Barry
"As beguiling and delectable as France itself." — *Mimi Sheraton — "Ann Barry tells her tale directly and clearly, without cloying artifice or guile, so that it has the warmth, honesty, and force of a long letter from an old friend. She makes her reader a welcome house guest in her much-loved little cottage in the heart of France." — *Susan Allen T...  more »

This is a fun read for anyone interested in France. I enjoyed it and it made me wish I do could have a vacation cottage there.

over the years author spent only part of the year in a cottage she bought in southwestern France, but this is a delightful memoir of her experiences there and of her travels to other parts of the country

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in the French countryside? Ann Barry did just that, but unlike some memoirs in which Americans move full time to another country, Barry continued to keep a home in the US and spent numerous vacations every year in her French home. I really enjoyed her "voice" throughout this book; many times I felt like I was sitting in the passenger seat as she drove around the French countryside seeing new places and muddling amicably through the many adventures of being a foreigner to culture differences. Take note of the specific restaurants and hotels she mentions in the book because after you're done reading you'll be more than ready to plan a France vacation for yourself.

I'm so sorry...I really wanted to like this book. But my taste in reading about being "At Home in France" must run to tales about the HOUSE, and not so much about the neighbors. I just couldn't get into it.

A quick, easy read. Barry's tale of her travels abroad in France are delightful, very descriptive of the French countryside of Brittany, Paris, Provence, etc.
She writes in a way that the reader will glide right along with her on the adventure.
