Where do i start. I honestly can not imagine living on the road like this child did. It is amazing she turned out sane enough to write this book. It's a look inside her life with her mother on the road constantly with a "gospel tent family" that consisted of many members. They went thru some very hard times. I know thru history that these revivals and tent travelers were very popular at one time when people were poor and faith was streatched thin. I wonder about her mother though, she gave away all their earthly belongings...everything, she was faith filled but is that all? Was she really a bit off her rocker or did she just think it was ok to bring up children this way, with no roots & nothing really normal. Pastor Terrell was committed but way way over board, especially with his fasting. Then to go thru all that for God and cheat on his wife...i will never understand this. This pastor did bring many people to worship God...but is it really true faith when you do some of the things this pastor did and then he goes on the stage and preaches otherwise?
This was an excellent read, written very well and keeps you flipping pages. I would read it again, and probably still not fully understand these people. It almost felt like there was something to this story that was left out and not spoken about. I was brought up in a stationary home with a mother that tried her best to make it cozy, comfortable and secure. Although i did have an alcoholic father she protected us.I always thought it was the mothers job to give the children security. Maybe you can figure it out. Again it is a great read.

This was one of the best memoirs I've read in a very long time. The author's life growing up in the holy roller circuit is as foreign to me as if she had grown up in a primitive tribe in the Amazon. She tells her story with love and humor--and yes, respect. Highly recommend.

This was an entertaining book to read while traveling. I wish that she had written more about her adult life, and how she left the circuit and worked out all the issues.
