This book was a psychological suspense story. It tells of six teenagers planning an underground stay of three days while they are supposed to be on a field trip. The sixth teenager stays above ground and locks the lid to the hole so they can't get out. He is supposed to return in three days. This is just the beginning of things to go wrong.

This book was a fast read (of around 140 pages).

The spoiler on this is that I saw the movie first. The book was first released in 1993.

While the movie was based on the book - it was difficult to compare the film to the book.

Movie: Had 4 characters in the Hole.
Book: Had 6 characters.

Movie: stated how long they were in the hole and the outcome of all characters involved.
Book: Stated what happened to two characters.

The problem I had with the book is that I saw the movie first and enjoyed it much more than the book.

As for calling the book a psychological thriller - the movie was much more intense.

I didn't see the movie. I couldn't put the book down. I've loaned it to several friends and they were as fascinated as I was - a real thriller!!

good book-psychological thriller about a teen who tricks 5 others into going in the Hole for 3 days during a school field trip. The 5 realize that they are trapped. Ending was a bit confusing but kept me turning the pages.

Very good suspenseful story but when I read the ending I was so confused and didn't really understand it.
