It will be seen by the perusal of these extracts, that several family names have ceased to exist in Corbridge, their descendants being resident in other localities, and even in other countries; in reference to a few others whose names are not only extinct, but all knowledge of the families are lost in that great storehouse of forgotten things, (many names we have not quoted are in this class.) As all these names are a short but easily understood history in themselves, there are only a few which require a passing notice, and little more than ordinary attention. It will have been observed that Sir Francis Radcliff was five times churchwarden for Dilston when he was a baronet, and twice after he was created earl. In 1676, is the name of John Readhead, churchwarden, and in 1685 is Ralph Readhead; their lineal descendants are still living in Corbridge, of the name of Ralph. The descendants of several other old families are .yet resident in the village. The two names more particularly referred to are those of Birch and Greenwell. Eliezer Birch, Esq., (by which title he is designated) was not a native of Corbridge, but took up his residence here about the middle of the last century.
