His Grace is Sufficient Author:Barbara Wilson His Grace is Sufficient follows thirty years in the Christian life of Laura and John Ryan. The joys and sorrows are seen through Laura's eyes as she struggles to be a good mother to her children, a good helper to her pastor husband, and a good Christian. She grew up in a mining camp where money was scarce and ambitions were stunted. College... more » was not an option and she had no idea what she wanted from life, except to get away from the camp that had consumed her parents and older sister. Her best friend, Joanne Ryan, not only introduced her to a different life style but to her older brother John. Through their influence and example the Lord led Laura to accept His Son as her Savior and her life changed forever. She marries John who becomes a pastor and their life unfolds. They find they have the same joys and sorrows and feelings as anyone else yet their expectations to cope with them are higher. Moreover, Laura's childhood and background gave her no skills to weather these trials. The first major trial she had to overcome was the objection of her parents to dating John. They were opposed to him because of the religion of his family that her father termed as "fanatic". They wanted her to marry a young man who worked in the coal mines and settle down near them as her older sister had done. Soon after their marriage John returned to the Bible College several miles from her family and friends and for the first time she was terribly homesick. John shared with her a verse from II Corinthians 12:9. "He said unto me, My Grace is sufficient, for my strength is made perfect in weakness." From then on through the trials of sicknesses, death, problems with children, and financial difficulties, they proved over and over again that, His Grace was indeed sufficient to get them through even the hardest times.« less
