Hinds' Feet on High Places Author:Hannah Hurnard A fascinating allegory which personifies the attitudes of mind, heart and temper that often hinder a Christian's journey to the "high places" which represent unity with Jesus Christ.
I can't find the right words to describe this inspiring book. I am not even devoutly religious but this book helped me through many a difficult time. I have my own copy. Her sequel Mountains of Spices is wonderful too.
I loved this book. It is truly a blessing to read this book. It makes you know that all you need to do is submit to GOD will and you will reach high places you never imagine.
I have read this many times and have gotten so much out of it each time. Far better than any allegory I ever read in college. The best love story ever... as the back cover of the book states, "a beautiful allegory dramatizing the yearning of God's children to be led to new heights of love, joy, and victory." I recommend this as a must read for every person of faith. Much-Afraid's journey is worth following along on the path to the High Places. The little mementos that she picks up along the way and what becomes of them is one of my favorite parts...
This book.. aahh.. I cannot say enough kind things about it.
This book was personal, timely (but then EVERYTHING God gives you is in His perfect timing), and obviously Spirit-inspired. This book was a NECESSARY read for my life, and I am thankful that the Lord would allow me to be able to read it in this lifetime.
This book was encouraging, moving, (did I mention personal),and creative in its usage of taking a simple creation and personifying so intimately.
This book will speak to the deep recesses of your heart if you let it. An easy, refreshing, laid-back but completely didactic teaching/reminder of our relationship with the One and Only, TRUE Shepherd and Bishop of our souls.
I have given away several copies of this bok over the years. I consider it to be one of the best books I have ever read when pursuing spiritual growth.
I read this book at the time of my conversion to Christ and it had a huge impact on my life! I can't remember how many times I've read it or how many copies I have had of this book, but it's in my nightstand right next to my Bible and has helped me and encouraged me more times than I can count!
This is a limited edition of the best-selling classic and features the band Jars of Clay exclusive thoughts. It also includes photos of the band and a special Bible study for the song "Much Afraid". It is the story of Much-Afraid's journey and the characters she meets and travels with as she moves from fear to a place of faith. Sorrow and Suffering accompany her as does The Good Shepherd whose tenderness and goodness renew her along the way.
The Christian allegory, such as the classic PILGRIM'S PROGRESS, is a story that characterizes the Christian walk of faith described in the Bible. Restricted to a single meaning, the allegory features Christian virtues and sins as symbolic characters who have no real personal qualities beyond the abstractions they represent. In Hurnard's allegory, Flo Schmidt narrates the story of characters named Much Afraid, Sorrow, and Suffering as they journey to the High Places, where their weaknesses will be turned into strengths and their fears into faith. The Shepherd who leads them is characterized with a kind, gentle voice filled with love and hope. The personalities of Craven Fear, Pride, and Selfishness, who act as antagonists, are depicted with sharp, cutting tones. The testing of each character during the journey is realistic, and tones of joy ring out as Much Afraid and her companions gather memorial stones to mark their progress.
This book is so good! It reads like an allegory. Dramatizing the journey eaqch of us must take before we can learn the secret of living life in " HIGH PLACES" There are also severalmore books by this same author. These books should be read in order to get the real meaning.
