Janet Chapman is a modern day Wizard herself. Time travel, magic, alpha males, with accents ( to us Americans ) and old world ways and ideas but somehow more aware of a modern woman's needs than a modern man. Throw in the occasional villain or mystical creature. Romance, hot steamy sex.. And you have the Pine Creek Highlander series.
The only thing wrong with these books is the highlanders get old to fast and the books are to few... I have never devoured a series so fast.

This book was good but definitely not up to her usual hotness with her highlanders. The MacKeage's were involved and so was their wacko magic but with a French dude as the hero - just not the same thing. After the avalanche, Luke pulls the sleigh through a blizzard for 30 miles or so. The whole magic thing is way more believable that that unreal feat. IMHO it ruined the ending. I didn't "feel" the romance between Camry and Luke at all which kinda ruined it for me. It just seemed forced.

This series of Janet Chapman's books show a love of romance and the paranormal. It's well written and the twists and turns of the plot keep you guessing.

If you enjoy romance novels and paranormal novels then you will have the best of both worlds in this series.

In A Highlander Christmas by Janet Chapman, heroine Camry MacKeage is in the midst of a mid-life crisis. After a fellow rocket scientist, Lucian Pascal Renoir (âLukeâ), reveals a flaw in Camry's ion propulsion work, she is fired from her job at NASA. Thereafter, she flees to a small town in Maine to dog-sit, tend bar, and hide from life.

When Luke inadvertently breaks the news to Camry's parents, they send him on a quest to bring Camry home for the annual winter solstice celebration. Sparks quickly fly between Luke and Camry when they first meet in person. The pair rapidly falls in lust-love, but Camry is no ordinary beautiful rocket scientist. Strange occurrences, such as, the disappearance and reappearance of transmitters, cabins, and even people, follow Camry wherever she goes. Believing in the âmagic,â as Camry calls these events is a problem for logical minded Luke.

As a reader, unfamiliar with the Highlander series (this is the seventh book in the series), I was able to enjoy the novel. That is, the story stands alone for new readers while at the same time should not disappoint longtime fans. The romance between Camry and Luke is cut from the same cloth as the famous Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey pairings: two strong willed characters who challenge and fulfill each other. The magical elements of the novel provided an interesting twist to the plot. The only minor criticism I have is the frequent references to condoms. While I suspect this was the author's attempt at public service the references were so numerous that it became a bit distracting.

A Highlander Christmas is an enjoyable seasonal fare for romance lovers!

This book was just ok. It didn't come close to what she normally writes. I just couldn't connect to the characters. The chemistry wasn't there. The book felt forced like it was written in a hurry.

I really like this author and this series, but this was not my favorite book in it. Chapman usually has strong guys and brainy women which is a great combination. This time the guy is a "modern" not a Highlander, and the heroine is more lost than her usual strong women (she's a physicist, but tending bar and dog sitting because she's not sure about her future). You still get the happy ending and a glimpse of the characters from other books. The change of heart portions felt a little preachy this time, but there is a good rescue and fun snow camping.

This one was kinda weird; can't say I really liked it as much as the others, but it was still a good read and tied up a lot of loose ends.
