Tamara takes a new job from an old woman who wants the murderer of her son found. The police don't really care to investigate. The job leads her to old acquaintances and a renewed romance that all come together in a tragic end. I really like reading this author's work even though (maybe because of!) it is steeped in African America culture.
When the grieving mother of a slain hoodlum begs the Newark p.i. to look into the unsolved murder, Tamara initially refuses, but then discovers a connection between the victim and her late policeman brother. Her search for the truth takes Tamara from the grittiest sections of the city to its middle class neighborhoods where family secrets are preserved at any cost.
Great urban mystery book
