It is extremely rare that a first time author creates such a masterpiece as Violet Ivanescu has done with her Leisure Historical August release of "THE HIDDEN JEWEL". Her gift at creating unforgettable characters, heart stopping excitement and pages that literally turn themselves is obvious from page one. Our story opens with Dominique Chantal languishing in a prison at the Chateau de Loches in March of 1803. She has been entrusted with the duty of delivering a medallion to a group of people intent upon overthrowing Napoleon. With her imminent death apparent she is rescued at the last moment by Andre Montville - an alleged spy for Napoleon. Forced to marry, the two embark upon and adventure wrought with danger, peril, betrayal, and love. Ms. Ivanescu has created villains diabolical enough to put a chill up any spine, characters you can really care about and who will remain with you long after the last page has been turned. Her historical detail is incredible and makes the reader feel as if they really are there and that is something that all authors hope for, but all too often do not achieve. This first novel is in a word, exceptional. Astounding, wonderful, engrossing and leaves the reader begging for more!
