Richard is a fabulous hero--very deep, emotional, and responsible, intelligent. His depression over his wife's & daughter's deaths leads him to contemplate suicide. But along comes brave, stalwart Jessica who, in her determination to protect Gabriella, is willing not only to battle his unwillingness to be the girls' ward, but also to bring him back from the brink of self-extinction. They are superb together.

Excellent read. England 1800s. the story flows quickly and keeps your attention. Twists and turns throughout move the story along without neglecting the attraction between the hero / heroine. Relationships develop nicely while the "mystery" unfolds. A little predictable, but doesn't take away from the overall picuture. Recommend.

I liked this better than So Wild A Heart, the first book in the series, and certainly Richard was a better hero. The slow build to the love story was OK but not memorable and frankly, I had to go back and read my own review to remember anything about So Wild A Heart, which I read less than a month ago.

Overall I felt let down by this book. Richard was a great wounded hero but Camp just doesn't have the writing chops to tell this kind of story in a way that hits home. The hero and heroine were likeable enough but I never really cared about them or the things they've suffered. When Richard finally talks about the death of his wife and daughter, and breaks down, I felt unmoved.

I like the ideas of these characters better than what you find when you read the books. I want to read about Rachel and Michael, but I suspect I'll be just as disappointed in their story as I have been with the first two.

This was a wonderful book, the storyline was so interesting and kept your interest throughout the whole book, coming together to reveal the killer at just the right time. Lots of twists and turns with tension sprinkled in. Can't wait to continue the series.
