For many people this will probably reinforce some of the suspicions they already had about news reporting. While the book is almost two decades old, the concepts discussed are still very relevant today - news services that seek, inadvertently or maliciously, to influence the opinions of a mass public, either by going back to the childhood 'good vs evil' scenario, or omitting vital information from a story in order to sensationalise it. More recently, media commentators have talked about the 'tabloidising' of the news, and this is exactly what Lahaye warns us about.
Naturally, as a Christian, Lahaye deals in depth with the way the secular media portrays issues of religion, particularly in terms of a pluralistic society. Despite his own convictions, he manages to remain relatively impartial. Therefore this is a fascinating insight into this area.« less
