I liked this better than other anthologies which leave me frustrated because the stories are so short. This has 9 tales in 300+ pages, so they felt more complete. My favorites were from the authors whose series I read (Butcher & Andrews). I assume some of the others would have had more meaning if I was already familiar with their worlds. I do plan to look for the series by Douglas and Elrod. Books like this are a great way to sample an author!

I bought this anthology for the Ilona Andrews story. Unfortunately, it's the worst one I've read. Jim Butcher has a Harry Dresdin story in here, which was OK. I hate paying a lot of money for short stories, but some of them really fill in on characters from longer book stories.

This is a very enjoyable book, with short stories from most of my favorite supernatural writers, and a few from writers I haven't read before. Not one story is a "dud" (which happens a lot with anthologies).

All of the stories revolve around some type of magic; don't let the first few pages with the frost giant put you off.
