I have never watched the movie they made of this book because, since it was a classic, I wanted to read the book. It was nothing like what I thought it would be...Company G, army peace time recruits all crammed onto the Island where Pearl Harbor held the US Navy ships. But this is peace time, 1941 and all the army assumed we would get into the war; the war in the European theater. It's about the lives of these men, their struggles, friendships, faults, and dreams.
Well written, with a surprising lack of apostrophe's where they should be gives you an idea of the lack of education education and hard times people went through. I really loved this book and now will watch the movie to see how close it comes to the actual book.
