This is the first Storey (Publishers) publication that I've ever been disappointed that I purchased. Maybe I didn't read the blurb carefully enough. I was looking for a recipe book that offered the directions and combinations of spices to make commercial mixes (such as Mrs. Dash or McCormick Gluten-Free Taco Seasoning Mix).

After I got over my disappointment, I read the book and found some things I could use. Let me tell you about the chapter headings (to give you an idea of their offerings):

* Ethnic Flavorings
* No-Salt Blends
* Marinades and Dressings
* Butters and Spreads
* Dessert Mixtures
* Teas and Mulling Spices

This book is really for someone who would like to make gifts of seasoning mixes for friends and families. The upside of this book is that the author got recipes from individual mom-and-pop companies willing to share their concoctions -- and how to use them.

Here are a few of the mixtures I plan to make: All-Purpose Seasoning Blend (can make low-salt or no-salt versions); All-Around Spice (has sesame seeds in the recipe; I thought it sounding like something I'd like to try); Cajun Herb Mix, Herb Mixtures for Italian Breads; Herbes de Provence recipe, South-of-the-Border Hot Chocolate Mix, and Old-Timey Mulled Cider Spice.
