I teach third grade and this is what I call stories that are so fun to read that you just have to laugh.

I'm in the mood for some fun books, too. I've read the Evanovich books and am now reading Dreaming Southern by Linda Bruckheimer.

Any ideas?

Try the Plum Sykes books. She has "Bergdorf Blondes" and "Debutante Divorcees". Also, Jen Lancaster is my go-to for a laugh. If it doesn't have to be chick-lit, try Christopher Buckley and Christopher Moore. I really loved "Lamb" by Christopher Moore.

I laughed out loud reading Twenties Girl, also by Sophie Kinsella (like the Shopaholic series.)  Her books are really silly.  I second the suggestion of Jen Lancaster, with the caveat that if you aren't sarcastic or don't appreciate sarcasm, you might not love her books.

I just bought I Heart New York, glad to know it's good.  I've been in the mood to read a good chick lit, but I have my heart set on reading From Notting Hill, With Love Actually.  I've been waiting forever to get it, it's coming from the U.K.

Another vote for Twenties Girl.

And I just finished this one - it was great!

I really like Susan Elizabeth Philips' books, I especially like them as audiobooks when I travel.  Nothing overly complicated in the plots but lots of fun dialogue.  Some of Linda Howard's books are hysterical.  The two that come to mind are "Mr. Perfect" and "Open Season."  Beware, Howard's books do have some hot sex scenes but the situations and dialogues are often fun.  Mr. Perfect tells the story of a group of women friends who on a night out together compose a list of what would make the "prefect man."  The story tells what happens when the list becomes public, which of course, in keeping with modern romantic suspense, leads to murder and mayhem.  But the list and the public reaction to it are really funny.  Open Season, has one of the funniest scenes I've ever read in a book (an "old maid" librarian wanting to spruce up her dating image, a sexy Chief of Police, and a box of condoms bought in a small town drug store where gossip flies at the speed of light), but it is an odd mix of a very funny, sexy story and an equally serious and sobering sub-plot on sex slavery.

Not too long ago I read Georgette Heyer's, "Black Sheep," and I laughed through the whole thing!  I woke my husband up a few times and had to explain why I was laughing and he got a kick out of the story too!

Try Donna Andrews' Meg Langsley series for cozy mysteries and Mary Connealy for humorous historical cowboy fiction.
