The story opens as Rachel Hollis is preparing to attend her husbands funeral. As soon as Tommy Lee Gentry hears of the death, he becomes agitated. By bits and pieces, the reader learns more about this couple. Rachel Talmadge and Tommy Lee Gentry were best friends as children; later, they became lovers. Then it all fell apart and each married other people.

Tommy Lee lives life on the edge; hes been married and divorced three times, smokes too much and drinks too much. He has no problem making money; intimate relationships are different matter. Rachel has her own dress shop and is doing quite well, while setting the fashion tone for the small town.

This is a wonderful story of what if and second chances. Can the powerful love of seventeen year-olds be reignited 24 years later? This is an interesting character study of what happens in families when they stop speaking and refuse to listen.

I thought this book was amazing! LaVyrle Spencer is my favorite author! She completly picks up the feelings the characters have from deep in the heart. You feel like you are there and you are feeling everything the characters are feeling. I can't count the times I have read her books and have to catch my breath just because of the thoughts of the characters or a simple conversation they may be having! No one will be disappointed if they read her stuff!

Typical Lavyrle Spencer romantic love story. But still a very good read.

My favorite book of hers is Morning Glory but this one was good too. I liked the change in Tommy Lee.
Rachel is the pinnacle of elegance, social standing, and beauty--when the wildest, most passionate flame of her youth steps into her life again. Tommy Lee is the all-time hellraiser of Russellville, Alabama, with three marriages behind him and a string of fast cars and women. The townsfolk say he will never change. But Rachel knows differently.

Nostalgic and captures the feeling of love lost and years wasted.

Very good story. I prefer historicals, so it wasn't my absolute favorite of LaVryle Spencer's, but if you like American contemporaries, you'll enjoy this one very much!

Tommy Lee Gentry and Rachel Talmadge share a past. Twenty Four years ago, they were neighbors, best friends, and lovers. But when Rachel finds out she is pregnant, her father sent her away to have the baby and give it up for adoption. Tommy Lee and Rachel lived separate lives until now. Rachel's husband has died and Tommy Lee starts visiting her. He tells Rachel he has never stopped loving her. But his reputation for wild women and booze stops her from getting involved with him again. She warns him that his lifestyle is a problem. Can he change his life to win the woman he loves?

LaVyrle Spencer is one of my favorite authors, but this story just didn't work for me. I had a hard time believing that a budding alcoholic could just give up drinking and other bad habits at the drop of the hat with no outside help and no slips in his recovery. And, even though I liked the ending, I felt it was too neat. All family problems were resolved and everyone was happy. I like Spencer's style of writing. She always keeps me glued to the page. It just felt too fake to me. My rating: 3 Stars.

LaVyrle Spencer opens the heart as no one else to the power of teen passion in this captivating story of an elegant, childless widow whose unforgetable high school sweetheart returns.

Two Hearts....Worlds Apart

Once they were high school sweethearts, too young and reckless to handle the consequences of their love. Now, twenty-four year later, Tommy Lee could still excite Rachel like no other man. Maybe this time, they could make it work.

"Once they were high school sweethearts, too young and reckless to handle the consequences of their love. Now, twenty-four years later, Tommy Lee could still excite Rachel like no other man. Maybe this time, they could make it work. In spite of his wild reputation, the local gossip, or Rachel's questioning heart"
