I hated this. Some of the short stories were offensive, as they dealt with child molesting and murder.

In these hilarious stories of perverse meetings, casual dates, and romantic encounters, we are enthralled, saddened, inspired, and surprised by the encounters we're made privy to. Alexander McCall Smith, a master of the unexpected and a seamless storyteller, revels in offering us the quirky complications inherent in entanglements that human beings engineer for themselves-entanglements that can be shocking, edifying, compulsive, complicated, and, sometimes, completely disastrous.
This is an exceptional collection of stories from an author whose wide audience delights in his extraordinary imagination and delicious insights into the endlessly fascinating peculiarities of the human condition.

Author Bio: Alexander McCall Smith is best known for The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, beloved New York Times and international best sellers. A practicing professor of medical law and the author of over fifty books, ranging from children's fiction to folktales to The Criminal Law of Botswana, he lives in Edinburgh.
A series of short stories written with Smith's customary subtlety and wit. Entertaining fast read that you can go back to time and again.
From the creator of THE NO.1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY comes a hilarious and heart-warming collection of stories about the trials, tribulations and delights of dating. (From inside book cover)
This is a collection of short stories that take place in various locations around the globe, such as Switxerland, Australia and different parts of Africa. Some of the stories are a bit more risque and perhaps controversial than his other books, but they all offer interesting insights into the human condition and the unique failings each person deals with in his or her life.
An eclectic set of short stories. Not all are the innocent style/themes like the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Some are serious; some are almost silly; all are a realistic slice of life. They take place all over Europe and Africa . . . sometimes they dont clearly tell you where the story happens. Worth the reading time and probably could be used in discussion groups.
A series of short stories about dates...quick read, very good in places.
The author, Alexander McCall Smith, is one of my favorites. Each story is rich and uniquely different and often surprising. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
This was a very odd Alexander McCall Smith book. I understand why its ot listed in the front covers of the No 1 Lady's Dectective Agency books. It is not for you if you read the McCall Smith;s books for the wholesome, sweet stories. This book is 9 short stories revolving around "dates". However you need to be very modern and open minded to enjoy some of the stories. Topics are not just the simple boy-meets-girl stories. It was not what I expected or wanted to read.
Almost as fun as the 1st Ladies Dectective series
My favorite Alexander Mc Call Smith!! A great collection of short stories!!
