Someday she vowed she get away with her brothers and sisters for find a decent world for them.
VC Andrews Casteel series...my favorite Andrews story
older book but good for teens and adults :)
Of all the folks in the mountain shacks, the Casteels were the lowest -- the scum of the hills.
Heaven Leigh Casteel was the prettiest, smartest girl in the backwoods, despite her ragged clothes and dirty face...despite a father meaner than ten vipers...despite her weary stepmother, who worked her like a mule. For her brother Tom and the little ones, Heaven clung to her pride and her hopes. Someday they'd get away and show the world that they were decent, fine and talented -- worthy of love and respect.
Then Heaven's stepmother ran off, and her wicked, greedy father had a scheme -- a vicious scheme that threatened to destroy the precious dream of Heaven and the children forever!

awesome book
I read this book so long ago, I can hardly remember what it's about. I've read everything V.C. has and after reading so many series' with so many books in them, it's hard not to get them confused. LOL It was a great book though. All of her's are!
you gotta love VC Andrews!
Very good book
I first read this book when I was in high school, it was the first V.C. Andrews novel I ever read. I thought the series was great! I love all of her writings. Though some seem like the same story line just with different characters and a little plot twist, they are still great!
Decent. Not my favorite series, but worth a read if you like Andrews' stuff.
This is the first book in the Casteel family series. If you like V.C. Andrews you'll love this.
this is the story of Heaven. She lives in the backwoods, wants to get away with her siblings. It's a good book.
This is probably the best V.C. Andrews book that I have read. Easy to keep up with the storyline and still not knowing what was going to happen next. Recommend it to all V.C. Andrews fans!
2 thumbs up !
Pretty good first novel in a series. After this book, when others begin writing under the author's name(she died), it gets tedious. However this one is really enjoyable.
Good read. If you like the other books by this author you won't be disappointed in this one.

Great beginning of a new series!!
I loved this author so much when I was younger, this one does her justice!
Heaven is one of V.C. Andrews' original works (as opposed to the later work done by her ghostwriter). It tells the story of Heaven Casteel, a young girl living in the mountains of West Virginia, who is decidedly smarter than the other hill folk who live there.
In typical Andrews fashion, Heaven uncovers secrets about how long-dead mother, is uprooted from her family, and moved to Atlanta with a new adoptive family, along the way pursuing her dreams and uncovering dark family secrets. This is the first in a series of five books.
Although this isn't my favorite series (since it was later finished by the Ghostwriter), Heaven does stand out in the Casteel series and is an interesting book since it takes place in several different locations.

Wow. V.C. Andrews can really write a story. This is only the second Andrews book I've read but I've never read anything quite like them. Sometimes the writing is a bit juvenile but she can really tell a story. I love that while her stories may be a bit out there and extreme, she makes you care about the characters.

Heaven is her name, her father is no good he is a moonshiner who beats & neglects his family he comes up with a scheme & one by one he sells his children for $500 apiece. You will have to read this book to find out what happens to all the children.
This is my favorite VC Andrews series of all of them I have read and I have read a lot of them! Heaven is such a very interesting story that will make you laugh and cry and get mad too! It is such a great read..you wont be disappointed.
I have all 5 of these-Casteel family.
I read this in the 80s, when it was brand spanking new, just released. I came home from school one day and my mama brought this to me and said, "I thought you might enjoy that, she is your age honey."....Ill never forget the moment she gave it to me. This one book is what CREATED in me a LOVE of books which will last me a lifetime. She wouldn't have known it from her action, but Ive been a hardcore reader ever since. This book was so good and I related to "Heaven" the character in this novel from a, "I feel sorry for you, girl" perspective. Ive read most all of VC ANDREWS books since then. Heaven is the only one that will always remain in my personal library for the rest of my life. Give a book to a young one, you may be actually changing someones life in a big way forever. Ill always love, "Heaven".. Thanks mama and I hope to see you in heaven one day!
