Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Chandos was the perfect hero. This is my all time favorite Johanna Linsey romance. The story had everything you could ask for in a romance - adventure, tension, suspense, danger and above all love and passion!
I read it in one sitting, (till 5am) I couldn't put it down. I wish I could read it again and again as if I hadn't read it before. I try, I read it every year or so. This is the kind of story that you hold in your heart for a long time after you have finshed reading.

One of my keepers. It was a real good story. I reread this book numerous times over the years, lent to my friends and always got great feedback.
I love Johanna Lindsey's westerns. They are almost as good as her Mallory series.

Courtney Harte gasped in disbelief. There, in a Texas newspaper, was a photograph of her beloved father...thought slain several years back in a savage Commanche massacre. The honey-haired beauty vowed to find him-but whom could she trust to accompany her through wild, dangerous Indian territory?
Wild west romance. very good read!
Back cover: "His name was Chandos. Tall and dark, with eyes the most startling shade of blue, he was the best funslinger around, Courtney put her faith in him...little dreaming of the dark secret that burned in Chandos's soul...little imagining the fires that would ignite under the hot summer sun, driving them together in an ecstatic frenzy that only passion understood...and love could tame.
I have all her books in hard back but 2, There is nothing better on a rainy night than a warm cosy fire and a Johanna Lidsey Book. They are must reads all of them over and over again.
This book starts out with the Harte's heading to Texas after the Civil War. Courtney's father is a doctor and he wants to set up shop in Waco, Texas. Along the way, their wagon is attacked by a band of Comanches, who kill the men. Courtney and her stepmother are saved by a blue-eyed Indian.
Years later, Courtney sees a newspaper with a photograph of a man she is sure is her father -- living in Waco. She decides to hire someone to take her through Indian Territory to get to her father. She chooses Chandos, a gunslinger of few words.
There's lots of action and drama along the trip. There's great dialogue between the characters -- Courtney learns to be more bold as she travels beside Chandos. However, Chandos is the strong, silent type. Chandos' story isn't revealed until the last 50 pages or so.
Straton Family
** 1. A Heart So Wild (1986)
2. All I Need Is You (1997)
