Patti Benning writes several series, that are short cozy mysteries. I really do love this series the most, so far. Our main character lives in a very small town, Asheville, Michigan. The small town grocery store has closed due to a big box store 20 minutes away. She is now the cook at a small private retirement home, where her Aunt and Uncle are residents. Since book one she has been dating the Director of the facility. Nothing seems serious, and Valentine's day is coming up. Enter another love interest. And the ex boyfriend. Her house is burglarized, and a frienemy is found dead in her home.

I like that the author makes the MC feel the feelings that come with the crimes. They are not glossed over and she is some brave but stupid person. She goes to a hotel, without her dog, because the dog is also missing.

There are several likable characters, that make this series enjoyable. Plus the main character isnt too stupid to live, and has a cute dog.

The mysteries are not too hard, and I like that the MC is not putting herself in grave danger. Enough red herrings in each book to keep you reading.
