This is the first book of a triad about ranching in Colorado. The author has a different spin on a plot -- and it is very interesting. A married couple with five daughters separates, she goes to Philadelphia (with the 5 daughters) and he stays on his ranch in Colorado. There's a great deal of yearning on both sides. The children yearn to know their father and the father yearns to know more about his wife and children. Why they are kept apart is important to the novel, and I'll leave the reader to find out more about that.

The father, John Brinkman, was well-loved in Eden, Colorado. He 'adopted' a son, Blake, when the 10-year-old orphan appeared on his doorstep 18 years ago. In John's will, he gives half of his ranch (one of the largest in Colorado) to Blake and the other 50% to the 5 daughters. The hook is that the 5 girls have to stay on the Eden ranch for 6 months in order to inherit.

I really liked the slow way the author got Belle and Blake together; it was very realistic. This is my first book by Caroline Fyffe and I look forward to finding more.
