just ok for me. I was a bit bored. I think Rice needs to change up her formula a bit.

Hmm. I liked the many components involved in this story: the Ghost Ops team, its members and the histories involved, and the secret community they managed to build for themselves. Set in an unknown time of the future, the technical advancements were creative and interesting. Mac and Catherine were a great pair; his because of the man he was and hers over her fascinating ability to sense emotions through touch. Through this gift, their chemistry quickly (almost instantly) evolved into an intense relationship that was quite moving in its description. Now, I know that LMRice writes her heroes as men who quickly fall for their women, and vice versa, but this was crazy fast. There was no delicious relationship build up to savor, just an instant plunge into sexual and emotional connection. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but coupled with the steady interruptions of the villainous side story, it was difficult to stay focused on Mac and Catherine's 'romance.' This style of writing may work for the author, but it makes my reading a rather frustrating experience simply because it detracts from the main couple. Still, the side plot is detailed and involved but, worse yet, unresolved! I really like LMRice's heroes--they are really hunky and swoon worthy if you like that sort of rough yet sensitive type of man--but her stories (this story) dances along a thin rope attempting to balance love, romance, and dastardly situations in which these heroes can shine and impress us all. Unfortunately, it only half works for me. 3.5 stars.
