I've read many of Lori's books and really enjoyed them, including this one. What really drew me in was in the introduction. She talks about a "Spooklight". We had a spooklight in our town, too. As a teenager I heard all the stories about seeing the spooklight out swamp road. I personally never saw it and only went once with friends from church to see it. It was a beautiful night, but no light appeared for us. Lori has seen this light, and she took the stories and legends and wrote this book. At the very beginning the light causes Marshall Ian Cawley to lose the outlaw he was trailing. The light came right at him, then on the outlaw. His horse spooks and takes off. He ends up going through a closed barn door. When he's found by Lyric he's badly hurt and doesn't know who he is. That leads to speculation that he is an outlaw. When Lyric talks to the sheriff to see if there is a wanted poster on him, he tells her just to turn him in and they will hang him. No need to try to help him when he'll just die anyway. Lyric can't do that because he could be innocent. So now how is she going to find out who he is?
